  • This can be a helpful book with powerful scripture references and inspiring examples from the life of a man who desired to serve God and do God's best will for his life. He saw miracles happen in answer to prayer and the course of World War 2 changed by way of his and others' prayers. This is a book to seek God through, but it does have errors, as most Christian books do. So, we Christians need to be Bereans (Acts 17:10-11). Use caution and discernment when reading this book

I am certain that not everything Norman Grubb or Rees Howells said is true or biblically correct. Rees depended much on a voice he heard, but he needed to meditate on God's Word (the Bible) more.
  • When we are grounded in God's Word (Acts 17:10-11), and as we seek to know God as our Abba Father in a personal relationship (Galatians 4:6-7), we will have better discernment to know what is of God and what isn't. Abba God does speak to us by His Spirit (John 16:13), but He does not tell us to do anything that is contradictory to His Nature as revealed through the Bible. God does not teach us to perform for Him or earn anything from Him (Romans 4:1-8). God does not teach us to go through agony in prayer (John 14:27). He gives us peace (John 14:27, John 16:33John 20:19-23).
  • There are more errors than I have been able to write about. So, again, we Christians need to be Bereans (Acts 17:10-11). I myself have been misled at times, so I offer these articles with a desire to point out why God is a loving, caring, compassionate, patient, gracious, longsuffering Father (Psalm 86:15, Psalm 36:7-8). And, I offer these articles to point out truth from God's Word (the Bible).

A brief note about the phrase "gained the place of intercession" (which is throughout Norman Grubb's book)

A "place of intercession" is not gained by works. It is simply resting in God and believing His Word (the Bible). Rees Howells was incorrect in what he said about these things because what he was believing was unbiblical about "gaining" "a place of intercession". Ephesians 2:8-9 says: "[8] For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: [9] Not of works, lest any man should boast."

Jesus taught about praying and faith in Mark 11:22-26 and John 14:12-14 and Matthew 21:20-22. (Faith is a choice and not a feeling. Mark 5:36.) 1 John 3:22 teaches that if we obey the scripture, we will receive our prayer requests (because God would be glorified). Jesus never taught that we need to work for Him to gain "a place of intercession" (or working to a state of living where God will answer our prayers). He just said we need to pray and choose to trust Him to answer our prayer, if our prayer would glorify God the Father (John 14:12-14).

Spiritual Error in Chapter 5 -- THE HOLY GHOST TAKES POSSESSION

If you are interested in further reading (using your discernment along with the Bible), you could look at this article titledRees Howells Intercessor - A Critique (By: J.D. Miller). In it, J.D. Miller exposes a deception that is promoted.

A voice that Rees assumed to be the Holy Spirit gave Rees Howells false teaching about the infilling of the Holy Spirit. This is after Rees had been a Christian. We know from the Bible that the Holy Spirit dwells in us from the time we are saved (1 Corinthians 3:16). And, the Holy Spirit does not seek to remove our will completely from us. He wants to work with our will and lead us into the truth (John 16:13).

I don't agree with J.D. Miller about having nothing to do with Norman Grubb's biography of Rees Howells. There is truth throughout it that is beneficial, such as how Rees trusted in God for finances (like George Muller did) and saw God provide him money to purchase properties for a Bible college, and for other ministry purposes. Rees did not ask any money from people for the properties or for his daily needs. Rather, he trusted in God alone and saw God miraculously provide for his every need.

Here are some PDF files which contain articles revealing deception throughout Rees Howells: Intercessor and showing from the Bible the truth:

Note:

Near the end of this page are some links to notes (articles) about statements made in this book (Rees Howells: Intercessor) that are erroneous. We Christians can get into error, including this writer, so seeking to know God personally, being Bereans (Acts 17:11), and meditating on God's Word (John 8:31-32Psalm 1:2) are important.

This book has good, biblical truth in it, but deception has crept in throughout it. When we Christians are being brought close to God, the devil will seek to mislead us in different areas of our lives where we are open to the devil's deception. He has the power to mimic God and sound similar to God, but what the devil says is not biblically sound.

When we spend time in meditating on God's Word, the Bible, and seeking to know God deeper, we will see how loving, and kind, and Holy He is. Abba God is our loving Father (for a believer in Jesus). He is not harsh or demanding. He is not strict. The Bible says that God is of great mercy, full of compassion, and has tender mercy. It also says He is slow to anger.

Psalm 145:8-9 says: "[8] The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy. [9] The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works."

God's Word also says how God is a compassionate, loving Father who desires us to have close fellowship and communion with Him. See 1 Corinthians 1:9, 2 Corinthians 1:2-3John 17:22-23Jeremiah 31:3Psalm 103:8 and 103:13, 1 John 1:9, Jeremiah 31:3, 1 John 1:6-7Isaiah 46:3-4Isaiah 41:10Isaiah 431 John 1:3Isaiah 49:10-16Zephaniah 3:17and so on.

_______________

Here are some articles pointing out some of the errors in this book, giving biblical reasons why they are errors, and showing what the truth from God's Word says. There are more errors in this book than these articles mention. So, I encourage you to be a Berean (Acts 17:10-11) and search the scriptures when you read Rees Howells: Intercessor

(Amazing Fact: Abraham and Noah were contemporaries.)
  • -- Chapter 14, page 46 note. Rees wrongfully believed that the Holy Spirit is very strict. He heard a voice that gave him a threat. This voice contradicts God's Word. I believe Rees did mostly hear from God, but he sometimes heard things that contradict God's Word. Read the note on this here.
  • -- Chapter 21, pages 64-65 note: Rees Howells was being hard on himself and wrongfully feeling that he had to feel perfect forgiveness before he could actually forgive someone who had wronged him. Jesus taught us to forgive even if a brother sinned against us hundreds of times (Matthew 18:21-22). Forgiveness is a choice, and not a feeling. Read the note on this here.
  • -- Chapter 34, page 119 note: Rees Howells felt a "crushing burden" during a few days of WW2 in 1940. This "crushing burden" was not from God (Matthew 11:28-30). It was likely his fears that were crushing him. Nazi Germany was gaining territory in Europe at that time. Howells expressed fear about the Nazis capturing Britain and turning the British into "slaves" (see the beginning of page 120 in the PDF document). You can read the note on this here.
