Numbers Chapter 2: the Meanings of the Names and the Reasons Why They Are on the Four Compass Directions

Numbers chapter 2 (verses 1-31) speaks of the names of leaders of the 12 tribes of Israel and where the tribes were situated related to the tabernacle.  There is significance to the name meanings and to the positions of these 12 tribes about the tabernacle in the wilderness.

The scripture below gives some context to the following information.

Numbers 2:1-2
(Jabal al-Lawz. Mt. Sinai. Click for source.)

"[1] And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, [2] Every man of the children of Israel shall pitch by his own standard, with the ensign of their father's house: far off about the tabernacle of the congregation shall they pitch."

Numbers 2:3
"[3] And on the east side toward the rising of the sun shall they of the standard of the camp of Judah pitch throughout their armies: and Nahshon the son of Amminadab [shall be] captain of the children of Judah."

THREE TRIBES ON THE EAST SIDE OF THE TABERNACLE

From Numbers 2:1-9...

On the east side of the tabernacle are the tribes of Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun. There are three names in verse 3 relating to just the tribe of Judah: Judah, Nahshon, and Amminadab. Their name meanings combine to form this statement: "He praises God. He learns by experience. He freely offers himself." (Click here to read: The Hebrew Name Meanings from Numbers Ch. 1.  (PART 1) This will give understanding about the name meanings.)

There are 3 names pertaining to the tribe of Issachar, which is also on the east side of the tabernacle. They are Issachar, Nethaneel, and Zuar. Their name meanings combine to form this statement: "The payment is lifted up [i.e. think of Jesus on the cross]God bestows and givesOne who is made low." (Click here to read PART 2.)

There are 3 names pertaining to the tribe of Zebulun. They are Zebulun, Eliab, and HelonTheir name meanings combine to form this statement: "He dwells with GodGod is his FatherHe [the lowly one] shall have much seed [offspring].(Click here to read PART 2.)

➼ God told me that the reason those three tribes are on the east side of the tabernacle (which is the precursor to the temple) is that Jesus Christ will return from the East when He comes to the earth in a bodily form. Jesus will come to the temple from the East, God told me.

THREE TRIBES ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE TABERNACLE

From Numbers 2:10-16...

(Hebrew text. Click for source.)
On the south side of the tabernacle are the tribes of Reuben, Simeon, and Gad. The tribe of Reuben has three names (Reuben, Elizur, Shedeur) pertaining to this tribe. Ruling over the tribe of Reuben is Elizur, who is the son of Shedeur. The name meanings combine to form this statement: "Behold, a son. God is his Rock. He dwells within the land of light." (Click here to read PART 1. This will give understanding about the name meanings.)

The tribe of Simeon has three names (Simeon, Shelumiel, Zurishaddaipertaining to this tribeThe name meanings combine to form this statement: "He hears intelligently. His peace and blessings are from GodHis Rock is the Almighty God."

The tribe of Gad has three names (Gad, Eliasaph, Deuelpertaining to this tribeThe name meanings combine to form this statement: "To [or they] assemble by troops or, to [or they] assemble and attack. God will add to or augment him. He knows and perceives God."

➼ God showed me that the south is where the warmth comes from (in the northern hemisphere) and He showed me that it is the place where riches come from. Much gold is in Africa and South America. Many diamonds can be found in Africa. God showed me that He placed a lot of wealth in Africa. God showed me that the wealth symbolizes the blessings He puts on His people.

[NOTE: The tribe of Levi surrounds the tabernacle. See Numbers 2:17.]

THREE TRIBES ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE TABERNACLE

From Numbers 2:18-24...

The tribe of Ephraim has three names (Ephraim, Elishama, Ammihudpertaining to this tribeThe name meanings combine to form this statement: "He is fruitful, he grows, and increasesGod hears him [the lowly one]The nation [or people] shall be glorious." (Click here to read PART 2 -- The Hebrew Name Meanings from Numbers Ch. 1. )

The tribe of Manasseh has three names (Manasseh, Gamaliel, Pedahzurpertaining to this tribeThe name meanings combine to form this statement: "His [and their] sins are forgottenHe [and they] is [are] bountifully recompensed by GodHe is delivered by the Rock."

The tribe of Benjamin has three names (Benjamin, Abidan, Gideonipertaining to this tribeThe name meanings combine to form this statement: "The son of my right hand. His father makes his course straight. He is a warrior."

➼ God showed me that the West refers to Gentiles. God showed me that it means that just as the Jews are blessed, so also shall the Gentiles be blessed because they are trusting in God (i.e. believers in Jesus). God showed me that all these name meanings apply to the Gentiles as well as to the Jews who believe on Jesus.

THREE TRIBES ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE TABERNACLE

From Numbers 2:25-31...

The tribe of Dan has three names (Dan, Ahiezer, Ammishaddai) pertaining to this tribeThe name meanings combine to form this statement: "He walks on the path that is straight. [He has] A brother [Jesus] who succours or helps. This people's God is the Almighty." (Click here to read PART 3 -- The Hebrew Name Meanings from Numbers Ch. 1. )

The tribe of Asher has three names (Asher, Pagiel, Ocranpertaining to this tribeThe name meanings combine to form this statement: "This man is prosperous. He makes intercession to God. [When] Trouble is stirred."

The tribe of Naphtali has three names (Naphtali, Ahira, Enan) pertaining to this tribeThe name meanings combine to form this statement: "He [a man] wrestles [with sin]. He [Jesus] is a brother to those in calamity or distress. He sees the affliction [of the people]."

➼ God showed me that the reason these three tribes are on the north side is that judgment comes from the north. God said that He gives blessings to His people and God blesses them with peace and joy; and God will be a strength to those who are weak; and God will fight for the people who are suffering and will deliver them. God also said that while judgment comes from the north, God will defend and protect His people because they are obeying God and trusting in Him.
