UNICORN, in the KJV, Refers to a Type of Single-Horned Rhinoceros (Likely, It Was the Elasmotherium, the Siberian Unicorn)

The King James Version uses the word "unicorn" to refer to an animal called a (רְאֵ֖ם) reem, in Hebrew. The Elasmotherium, known as the "Siberian unicorn," was a woolly rhinoceros which was equipped with a large, single horn on the top of its head.

Webster's 1828 dictionary defines unicorn as: "1. An animal with one horn: the monoceros. This name is often applied to the rhinoceros."

The Elasmotherium, after the last of its kind had died out, might have been turned into a horse with a single horn, by people passing down accounts of the beast from generation to generation. From a great distance, the Elasmotherium might have resembled a horse with a single horn.

But, in the days in which the Bible was written, this creature did exist, and people actually saw it walking around. That is why it appears throughout the Bible. It was a powerful beast with a large, single horn.

Numbers 23:22 says: "[22] God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn."

  1. Thank you for your publication, it's really interesting and helpful! I hope this article can rebuke enemies of the KJV, because I've heard they dislike that the (KJV) translated re'em https://www.blueletterbible.org/lang/Lexicon/Lexicon.cfm?strongs=H7214&t=KJV as 'unicorn' instead of auroch...
